Epidemic Prevention in the College of Engineering Adds Energy: the ‘TKU Thermo’ APP by the Dept. of CSIE Measures Body Temperature, Drone by the Dept. of AE Helps Propaganda

The ‘TKU Thermo’ APP developed by the team of associate professor Shih-Hao Chang from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) has been installed at the entrance of the Building of Engineering for body temperature measurement since March 5. It takes less than 2 seconds to complete an individual check, so you can see students walking in smoothly one after another. What’s more, from time to time, there will be a drone and the robot Zenbo in the central atrium of the College of Engineering to assist the propaganda of epidemic prevention by reminding people through the slogan of "Wash your Hands Frequently and Put On Masks" to implement self-health management solidly.

The Dean of the College of Engineering, Tzung-Hang Lee indicated that all the departments of the College of Engineering have outstanding performances in their respective professional fields. “How to shorten the time of body temperature check and to let all the teachers and students attend classes smoothly” has become the main point due to the epidemic. “Therefore, I relied on Teacher Shih-Hao Chang's expertise for support, and asked the team to conduct research and development. They completed the ‘TKU Thermo’ APP within 5 days, which can quickly complete the temperature measurement and shorten the time for teachers and students to enter the building. However, the system is fast to assemble and it costs less than NT$ 40,000. This has not just solved the problem of insufficient supply of infrared thermal image thermometers, but has reduced budget cost, too,” said by Tzung-Hang Lee.

In addition, the Department of Aerospace Engineering (AE) launched a 6-axis drone that can carry weight up to 2 kg, putting on a cloth with printed slogan: ‘Wash your Hands Frequently and Put On Masks’. It flew in the central atrium of the College of Engineering during break time between classes. The Chairman of the Dept. of AE, Pu-Woei Chen explained, “The drone was ameliorated by the students from some common drones, and they designed various controllers and program developments to extend different kinds of applications.” He also indicated that this time the department exerted its expertise, cared for the health of teachers and students on campus, and used the drone as a reminder to help with the propaganda of epidemic prevention. Hopefully it would help to remind teachers and students to pay attention to various epidemic prevention measures.
